Clubs at Bay Creek


Bay Creek Jazz Band
Description:Jazz Band is avalible to all 7th and 8th band students that are interested in learning about and playing Jazz. Focus will be placed on the performance of Jazz Styles and improvisation techniques. Students will also gain an understanding of the history of Jazz.



BCMS Pep Band
Description:During all BCMS basketball home games, you will hear the amazing sounds of the BCMS pep band! The pep band is an auditioned group available to band students who are a also a part of the Jazz Band.



G.I.R.L.S.
Description:The purpose of G.I.R.L.S. (Girls In Real Life Situations) is to help young ladies discuss and deal with issues/situations they often face during their teenage years. The goal of G.I.R.L.S. is to give our girls a forum to openly share and discuss the challenges that many middle school students face while providing them with appropriate strategies and options for navigating the teenage years. It is our hope that through open and honest dialogue along with a safe supportive environment, our girls will become leaders who can help others.



Graphic Design Club
Description:The Graphic Design students will collaborate with the Journalism club and create illustrations, provide photographs and assist with layout of the school newspaper. The Graphic Design club will use traditional art tools, computers and digital cameras to produce artwork. Students must have average to above-average drawing skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word application.



Intramurals and Running Club
Description:Monday - 6th grade; Thursday - 7th grade; Friday - 8th grade; Running Club is for all grades and meets on Tuesday. Free to all students. This is a before school activity. Students must have a permission form on file. They are available in the gym. At 8:20 students are escorted from the cafeteria to the gym and participate the the activities until 9:00. Intramurals and Running club last for 10 weeks in the fall - ending the week of October 17, and 10 weeks in the spring - beginning March5.



Journalism Club
Description:The journalism class is a course in life skills and business operation. Students are required to research and write articles that will be published in a school newspaper. Being a member of a team for a school publication is an honor. Proactive and dedicated individuals are essential for the creative production of the newspaper. The course is conducted in a workshop format; students must be self-directive and dependable.



Peer Leaders
Description:Peer Leaders are eighth grade student with good leadership skills, cooperation, self-motivated, and eager to help others. Students apply to become a peer leader at the end of their seventh grade year. Applicants must have a teacher recommendation, write an essay, have at least a C average, and complete the interview process. All applicants will have the opportunity to interview. Student attendance, grades, and discipline history will be reviewed prior to selection.



Power Over Prejudice (P.O.P)
Description:P.O.P is comprised of ten seventh grade students recommended by their teachers and chosen by the POP facilitators based on program goals. These students participate in a one- day Power Over Prejudice Summit at Georgia Tech where teams of middle school students come together to participate a workshop on prejudice and discrimination. Students spend the day, in small breakout groups, learning about the impact cultural, racial, ethnic, socio-economic and physical indifference's have on their peer group (anti-prejudice consortium, 2010). The students bring the knowledge they learned at the summit back to their BCMS peers. They disseminate the information through public service announcements that they create as well as specific activities during "Synergy Month." They also teach advisement lessons on tolerance, inclusion, and diversity to all seventh grade students.



Readers Rally Team
Description:Readers Rally Team competes in a county wide competiton in February. We will participate in a quiz bowl format over twenty books against the other Middle Schools. We'll meet every Tuesday at 8:15 in the Media Center. Ten students can be selected to go to the final competition.



Relay For Life
Description:Students, Families, and Staff – Please join us in the Fight against Cancer. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds (May 4th & 5th), and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
